A Straight Answer to a Tough Question

In 2018, Beto O’Rourke of El Paso challenged Ted Cruz for his seat in the U.S. Senate. At the time Texas Republicans largely denied climate change and Texas Democrats failed to make it an issue. Beto was different: He addressed climate change head-on. As a campaign volunteer I distilled Beto’s events into short films and promoted them on my Facebook page. This clip from the beginning of football season went viral. As of November 2020, it has been seen at least 75 million times.

Houston’s vulnerability to storm surge in Galveston Bay long seemed to be our city’s best-kept secret. Then Rice University’s SSPEED Center came up with a way of turning lemons into lemonade. This film explains that idea.
